VACANCY - FEDERAL PUBLIC DEFENDER - WESTERN MISSOURI (May 3, 2013)

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit is accepting applications [under authority of 18 U.S.C. § 3006A(g)(2)(A)] from all qualified persons for the position of Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Missouri headquartered in Kansas City. The term of appointment is four years; annual salary at an amount not to exceed the salary of the U.S. Attorney for the district, currently $155,500. The Federal Public Defender provides federal criminal defense services to individuals unable to afford counsel.

INCREASED COST FOR FILING CIVIL CASES (Apr 16, 2013)

The Administrative Office of the United States Courts has announced the cost of filing a new civil case will increase to $400.00, effective May 1, 2013. This increase includes a $50.00 Administrative Fee for new civil cases, in addition to the current $350.00 filing fee.

Recently the clerk’s office has received reports from Arkansas citizens who have received phone calls, e-mail messages or text messages concerning jury service.  The calls or messages report that the citizen’s name is listed on a Web site for failing to appear for jury duty or the threat of a fine for failure to appear.
